Test Methods for Cable Accessories,
Part 4: Pressure Sealing Test
Scope of Application
JB/T8138.4-1995
This test method is applicable to the determination of the pressure sealing performance of cable joint boxes and terminal boxes using liquid or gas as the pressure transmission medium.
2 Test Equipment
The wiring diagram of the test system is shown in Figure 1.
2.1 Water pump or oil pump
The working pressure shall not be less than 9.8MPa.
2.2 Liquid pressure gauge
The maximum range is 9.8MPa, and the error does not exceed ±2%. 2.3 Air compressor or carbon dioxide cylinder, nitrogen cylinder 2.4 Gas pressure gauge
The maximum range is 5.88MPa, and the error does not exceed ±2%. 2.5 Pressure transmission medium
Should not have a corrosive effect on the sample. The viscosity of the liquid medium at 25°C should not be greater than 26cSt. 2.6 Pressure introduction component
The pressure is introduced from the cable inlet of the sample (as shown in Figure 2). For samples with rubber press-fit seals, the outer diameter of the pressure introduction component should be equal to the outer diameter of the cable.
2.7 The test system
Should have reliable sealing performance.

b. Air pressure test wiring
Continued Figure 1
Figure 2 Schematic diagram of the structure of the pressure introduction component
a-For lead seal samples, M is the same size as the terminal box inlet sleeve, b-For rubber press-fit seal samples, M is equal to the outer diameter of the cable 3 Sample preparation
The finished sample should be installed with all the accessories. 3.2 The box body sample should be installed with additional accessories dedicated to the sealing test. 3.3 One end of the cable joint box should be sealed with a solid rod. The outer diameter of the solid rod should be equal to the outer diameter of the pressure introduction component. 4 Test steps
4.1 Connect the test pipeline according to Figure 1 and meet the following requirements: a. For hydraulic seal test, first fill the prepared sample with liquid medium, install the pressure introduction components, and apply chalk powder to the sealing joints of the sample and the surface of the casting. b. For air pressure seal test, the sample should be completely immersed in water after the test pipeline is connected. 4.2 Steadily increase the pressure to the specified value of the product standard, then close the valve and keep it for the specified time of the product standard. 4.3 Observe the pressure change of the pressure gauge. The gauge pressure is allowed to fluctuate within the range of ± 5% of the specified value. If it exceeds this range, the pressure should be increased or decreased to keep the test pressure within the specified range. 4.4 Observe the sample:
Hydraulic seal test: whether the surface is wet. Air pressure seal test: whether there are bubbles discharged and the location of the bubble discharge. 4.5 At the end of the test, open the valve first to reduce the gauge pressure to zero, and then remove the sample. 2
Test results and calculations
JB/T8138.4-1995
There should be no leakage or air leakage within the specified test pressure and duration. Notes
Explosion-proof safety measures must be taken for air pressure sealing tests. Additional notes:
