1 Scope
Powder coatings
GB/T 21782.3—2008/IS0 8130-3:1992 Part 3: Liquid displacement pycnometer method for density determination This part of GB/T 21782 specifies the liquid displacement pycnometer method for determining the density of powder coatings. This method is based on the determination of the mass and volume of the test sample.
The equipment specified in this method is relatively inexpensive, but the liquid displacement pycnometer method may give incorrect results, especially when the powder expands as the displaced liquid is displaced, or when the displaced liquid does not completely displace the air in the powder particles. The liquid displacement method is slower to use and is less accurate than the gas comparison pycnometer method (arbitration method) for density determination in GB/T 21782.2-2008, and this method should only be used when it has been proven that it can produce the same results as the gas comparison pycnometer method. To determine the density of powder coatings by liquid displacement pycnometer method (pycnometer complies with ISO787-10:1993), the liquid used should be able to completely wet the sample and not Make the sample swell or dissolve. 4 Materials

Repeat the measurement twice at 23℃±0.5℃, accurate to 1 mg. 7.1 Determination of density of displaced liquid
First weigh in a clean empty specific gravity bottle (5.1), add the displaced liquid (4.2) to the scale, weigh again, empty the specific gravity bottle, clean it with acetone (4.3) three times, dry it in a vacuum, and add water (4.1) again. ) Pour into a pycnometer and weigh again. 7.2 Determination of the density of powder coatings
Empty the pycnometer, wash it three times with acetone, and dry it under vacuum. Place 3 to 4 g of the sample in the pycnometer and weigh it. Add enough replacement liquid to wet the sample and cover the sample. Connect the outlet of the pycnometer to the pressure-resistant tube (5.2) of the vacuum pump. Reduce the pressure in the pycnometer to 1.2 kPa while vibrating it until no more gas escapes from the powder/liquid mixture. Carefully raise the pressure of the pycnometer to atmospheric pressure, and then fill the pycnometer to the mark with the replacement liquid. Be careful not to stir the settled powder. Be careful when filling the liquid to avoid powder being retained at the neck of the pycnometer. Reweigh the mass of the fully loaded pycnometer. 8. Representation of results
8.1 Calculation
