National Standard of the People's Republic of China Romanization and codes for names of nationalities in China Names of nationalities of China inromanization with codes 1 Subject content and scope of application GB 3304-91 Replaces GB3304-82 This standard specifies the romanization and letter and number codes for names of nationalities in my country. This standard is applicable to document work, phonetic telegraph, international communication, publishing, news reporting, information processing and exchange, etc. 2 Principles and structure of compilation 2.1 The names of nationalities in China shall be national names recognized by the state. 2.2 The order of Arabic numeral codes shall be arranged according to the arrangement habits that are currently widely used in various aspects of my country. 2.3 The letter codes for names of nationalities in China shall be two Roman letters, both capitalized. 2.4 This standard has three tables. The first column of Table 1 is arranged by the number of Chinese characters; the first column of Table 2 is arranged in Roman alphabetical order; the first column of Table 3 is arranged in numerical code order. 3 Management 3.1 All changes in the names of Chinese ethnic groups and increases or decreases in their numbers shall be reviewed and approved by the State Ethnic Affairs Commission and notified to the State Bureau of Technical Supervision in the same year. 3.2 This standard is managed by the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Documentation Work. If there are any changes, the State Bureau of Technical Supervision will print them as appendices and distribute them nationwide.
