GB/T12451—2001
This standard is a revision of GB/T12451—1990 "Book Cataloguing Data in Publication". This revision adjusts some terms and their definitions, cancels Chapter 6 "Text of Book Cataloguing Data in Publication" and Chapter 8 "Detailed and Simplified Types of Book Cataloguing Data in Publication" of the original standard, and modifies the wording of some provisions.
This standard was proposed by the Publication Format Subcommittee of the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Information and Documentation Work. This standard is revised by the Publication Format Subcommittee of the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Information and Documentation Work. Drafters of this standard: Fu Zuohua, Xu Jiazong, Yuan Han, Cai Jingsheng. The first edition of this standard was issued by the State Bureau of Technical Supervision on July 31, 1990 and implemented on March 1, 1991. This standard replaces GB/T12451-1990 from the date of implementation.

This standard adopts the following definitions.
3.1 Cataloguing In Publication (CIP) is the work of compiling limited bibliographic data in the process of book publishing. 3.2 CIP data compiled in the process of book publishing and printed on the book. 3.3 Subject access point indexes the subject of the book content and is used to retrieve the standardized words or phrases of the book. 3.4 Classifying access point indexes the subject attributes or other characteristics of the book content according to the book classification method and is used to retrieve the classification code of the book. 4 Content of Cataloguing In Publication Data
The content of Cataloguing In Publication Data is divided into two parts: bibliographic data and retrieval data. 4.1 Bibliographic data
is an objective description of the identification characteristics of the book. It includes 6 bibliographic items: title and author item, version item, publication item, series item, notes item, and standard book number item.
4.1.1Title and Author Items

5 Item identifiers and content identifiers for in-print cataloguing data of books 5.1 Item identifiers
5.1.16 The identifiers shall be placed before the six bibliographic items and their components in accordance with the following provisions. Each bibliographic item (except the item at the beginning of each paragraph). Parallel book title, parallel series title.

Volume identification, titles of volumes without volume identification, bound book titles, and titles of attached series. 5.1.2 The identifiers used in each bibliographic item, except for commas, "," and periods, which only have half a Chinese character space after them, all other identifiers must leave half a Chinese character space before and after them.
5.1.3 “,一” takes up two spaces (no line break). 5.1.4 Whenever a content is recorded repeatedly, the identifier of the item shall be added repeatedly; if the first component of the recorded item is recorded repeatedly, it shall be marked according to the provisions of 5.1.1.

6.1 Rules for selecting recording data
The selection of the contents of each recording item in the recording data shall refer to the corresponding provisions of GB/T3792.2. 6.2 Rules for indexing search data
6.2.1 The book title search point and author search point shall be indexed according to the recording item. 6.2.2 Indexing of subject terms
6.2.2.1 The indexing of subject terms shall be carried out in accordance with the provisions of GB/T3860. 6.2.2.2 Subject terms shall be indexed based on the Chinese Subject Terms List and follow the indexing requirements of the Chinese Subject Terms List. 6.2.2.3 The subject terms of a book shall generally not exceed 3 groups; a group of subject terms shall generally not exceed 4 subject terms. 6.2.3 Indexing of classification numbers
6.2.3.1 Classification numbers shall be indexed based on the Chinese Library Classification (Fourth Edition) and follow the indexing requirements of the Chinese Library Classification (Fourth Edition).
6.2.3.2 The book must be indexed to a specific category based on the subject attributes or other characteristics of the book content. 6.2.3.3 For multi-subject books, additional classification numbers must be indexed when necessary. 7 Printing format of book in-print cataloging data
7.1 Book in-print cataloging data consists of 4 parts, namely: book in-print cataloging data title, description data, retrieval data, and other notes. There is a blank line between each part.
7.2 The first part is the title of the book in print, which is the standard boldface words "Cataloguing in Print (CIP) Data". The English abbreviation "CIP" of the term "Cataloguing in Print" must be in uppercase Latin letters and enclosed in parentheses. 7.3 The second part is the bibliographic data. The bibliographic data includes the title of the book, the author item, the version item, and the publication item, which are recorded consecutively; the series item, the note item, and the standard book number item are recorded separately. 7.4 The third part is the search data. The printing order is: title search point, author search point, subject word, classification number, and each type of search point is sorted by Roman numerals plus a dot. Leave a Chinese character space between each type. In addition to the classification number, the same type of search points are sorted by Arabic numerals. When there is more than one classification number, leave a Chinese character space between each classification number, but do not use any numbers or symbols to sort. The book title and author search points adopt the simplified recording method, that is, only the first letter of the book title and author's name is recorded, followed by "....". 7.5 The fourth part is other notes, the content of which is determined by the needs of the in-print cataloging work. 3
