National Standard of the People's Republic of China Method for determination of true relative density of coke Coke-Determination of true relative density This standard is applicable to the determination of true relative density of coke such as foundry coke and metallurgical coke. Terms True relative density is the ratio of the mass of a coke sample with a particle size of less than 0.2m to the same volume of water at a certain temperature. 2 Principle of the test The sample is placed in a density bottle, and air-free distilled water is added. The water is heated to boil and the adsorbed gas is removed. According to Archimedes' theorem, the mass of the same volume of water can be measured to calculate the true relative density of the sample. 3 Sample collection and preparation The sample collection and preparation shall be carried out in accordance with the provisions of GB1997-80 "Methods for the collection and preparation of metallurgical coke samples", and the analytical sample with a diameter less than 0.2mm shall be prepared. 1 Instruments 4.1 General laboratory instruments 4.2 Density bottle: Capacity 50ml. 4.3 Thermostat: A water bath with a stirrer and capable of maintaining 10~50°±1℃. 4.4 Air-cooled flow tube 1: A glass tube with an outer diameter of 300mm to 1000mm and the same length as the bottleneck of the density bottle, and a short section of rubber tube is used to tightly connect the two. 4.5 Glycerol bath: Fill a sufficient amount of glycerol in an appropriate container so that 2/3 of the density bottle can be immersed in the glycerol for heating. 5 Test steps Wash the density bottle with a mixture of potassium dichromate and sulfuric acid, rinse it thoroughly with distilled water, fill it with air-free distilled water, tighten the cold seal and immerse the bottle in a water bath (to the neck) with a temperature about 5°C higher than the ambient temperature for 1 hour. After 1 hour, use a filter paper to absorb the water drops on the top of the stopper, take out the density bottle from the water bath, cool it quickly under tap water, dry it, place it on a large flat surface for 30 minutes and then weigh it (accurate to ± 0.1 mg). After cooling to room temperature, weigh about 5g of ten coke (accurate to 0.1 mg) and put it all into the density bottle. Rinse the coke sample adhering to the neck and wall of the bottle with air-free distilled water to make the total volume reach 25ml. Connect the air cooling tube and the neck of the bottle with a rubber tube, put the density bottle in an oil bath, and heat the bath so that the water in the bottle begins to boil violently. Rinse the coke slag on the bottle wall with a few milliliters of hot distilled water without air. After boiling for 30 minutes, remove the density bottle from the glycerin bath, remove the air cooling tube, and let the bottle cool naturally.
