According to the Ministry's water resources and hydropower technical standards formulation and revision plan, the "China Reservoir Name Code" formulated by the Office of the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters as the main editor has been reviewed and approved as a water conservancy industry standard and has been released. The name and number of the standard is "China Reservoir Name Code" SL259-2000. This standard shall be implemented from March 1, 2001. During the implementation process, please pay attention to summarizing experience. If there are any problems, please inform the host department in writing.

SL259-2000
In order to meet the needs of water conservancy, flood control and emergency information construction, according to the principles and methods stipulated in SL213-98 "Regulations on the Compilation of Basic Information Codes for Water Conservancy Projects", and based on the river name codes determined in SL249--1999 "China River Name Code", SL259-2000 "China Reservoir Name Code" is compiled. SL259-2000 mainly includes the following contents: the purpose and principles of reservoir coding, the objects and methods of coding; the format of reservoir name code and the content of each element of the code; the handling instructions and terminology notes of some problems in reservoir coding; the name code of reservoirs in various river basins across the country.
