GB/T20001 "Standard Writing Rules" is divided into the following parts: Part 1: Terminology; Part 2: Symbols; Part 3: Information Classification and Coding; Part 4: Chemical Analysis Methods. GB/T20001.2-2001 This part is Part 2 of GB/T20001, replacing GB/T1.5-1988 "Standard Writing Rules for Symbols and Codes for Standardization Work Guidelines". This revision readjusted the original standard in accordance with GB/T1.1-2000. Compared with GB/T1.5-1988, the provisions of this part are more specific and more operable. The main changes are as follows: - The name of the standard is modified; - The overall structure of the standard is modified according to GB/T1.1-2000; - The term "text symbol" is added (see 3.3); - Chapter 4 "Basic requirements for standard preparation" is changed to "General principles", and the content related to "coordination" is added; - More detailed provisions are made for the reference of symbols between standards (see 6.5); The symbol index is changed from page number index to symbol number index, and The indexing method of symbol names beginning with foreign languages or Arabic numerals has been added (8.2 of GB/T1.5-1988; 6.4 of this edition); more detailed provisions have been made on the compilation of the symbol table, and a registration number column has been added (7.3 of GB/T1.5-1988; Chapter 7 of this edition); the table examples in the appendix have been adjusted, and new table examples have been added (Appendix A of GB/T1.5-1988; Appendix B of this edition); the informative appendix "Symbols and Related National Standards" has been added (see Appendix A). This part of GB/T20001 specifies the structure and writing rules of symbol (including text symbols and graphic symbols) standards. This part is applicable to the writing of symbol standards in national standards and industry standards. It can be used as a reference for the writing of local standards and enterprise standards. It can also be used as a reference for the writing of non-symbol standards containing symbol content. 2 Normative References

4 General
4.1 Basic requirements
The preparation of symbol standards shall comply with the provisions of GB/T1.1—2000, and the graphic symbols in the standards shall also comply with the provisions of GB/T16900~16903.
4.2 Coordination
When formulating symbol standards, the rules of existing basic symbol national standards shall be followed to ensure the overall coordination of symbol standards. The symbols in the standards shall be coordinated with the existing symbol standards. Appendix A gives the symbols and relevant national standards. 5 Structure
The content and hierarchical division of symbol standards shall comply with GB/T1.1-2000 Chapter 5. Table 1 gives a typical example of the arrangement of elements in a symbol standard and lists the allowed content of each element. When writing a standard, the relevant elements in Table 1 can be selected according to the specific characteristics of the standardization object and the purpose of formulating the standard. The symbol standard may also contain other normative technical elements outside of Table 1.

6.3.1 Terms and definitions The compilation shall comply with the provisions of 6.3.1 and Appendix C of GB/T1.12000. 6.3.2 Symbol numbers, symbols, symbol names, symbol descriptions and graphic symbol registration numbers shall be listed in the form of a table. The vertical columns of the table are number column, symbol column, name column, description column and registration number column from left to right, as shown below: Example: Tables B.1 to B.6 in Appendix B give examples of the arrangement of symbol and mark tables. 6.3.3 Text symbols, if they appear in the form of terms (names), symbols and definitions, can be arranged according to the provisions of 6.4 of GB/T1.6-1997 for numbers, terms (names), symbols and definitions. These contents can also be arranged in a table as shown below (see Table B.7): Example:

6.3.5 The symbol standard may also specify some other related contents, such as color, orientation (whether the symbol can be turned), the drawing method of graphic symbols, the rules and methods of production and application, etc.
6.3.6 The preparation of normative appendixes shall comply with the provisions of 5.2.6 and 6.3.8 in GB/T1.1-2000. 6.3.7 If necessary, the relevant contents in 6.3.5 may be compiled into the appendix. The chromaticity coordinates or color scale may also be given in the appendix. 6.4 Informative supplementary elements
6.4.1 The compilation of informative supplementary elements shall comply with the provisions of 5.2.6 and 6.4 of GB/T1.1-2000. 6.4.2 The symbol standard should compile the Chinese name of the symbol and the English equivalent index of the Chinese name. If the number of symbols exceeds 50, an index should be compiled.
6.4.3 The Chinese name index shall be arranged in the order of the Chinese phonetic letters of the symbol name; the English equivalent index of the Chinese name shall be arranged in the order of the Latin letters.
6.4.4 If the symbol name begins with Arabic numerals or foreign letters or is composed entirely of foreign letters, then in the Chinese name index of the symbol, such names shall be arranged after the Chinese characters in the order of Arabic numerals, Latin letters, and Greek letters. 4

6.4.5 The index content includes: the Chinese name of the symbol (or the English equivalent) and its number in the standard, and the name and number are connected by the symbol ".".
6.5 Reference
6.5.1 When a specific symbol is referenced in a symbol standard, the symbol number should be given in parentheses after the year of the standard. 6.5.2 When citing symbols in other standards, it is not appropriate to give the graphics of the specific symbol. The following methods can be used to indicate: a) Give the number of the referenced standard; when citing without a date, give the standard code and serial number. Example:
- "For other relevant graphic symbols, see GB/T10001—2000"; - "For other relevant graphic symbols, see GB/T10001". b) Give the number of the specific symbol.
Example:
The following graphic symbols are also applicable to this field: - Graphic symbols for taxis, see GB/T10001-2000 (01); - Graphic symbols for ticketing services, see GB/T10001-2000 (45); - Graphic symbols for Chinese food, see GB/T10001-2000 (58); - Graphic symbols for flowers, see GB/T10001-2000 (62). 6.5.3 In order to maintain the integrity of the symbol system in the standard, a small number of symbols from other standards may also be listed in the standard. In this case, the standard number and symbol number of the symbol in the original national or industry standard should be listed in the symbol description column (see 7.4.3). In this case, the original standard should be listed in the references.
7 Rules for compiling symbol tables
7.1 Number column
7.1.1 In the same standard, a symbol can only have one number, that is, a number only corresponds to a unique symbol. 7.1.2 The symbol numbering format should be different from the chapter and article numbering of the standard and should comply with the following principles: 1. The maximum number of characters in the numbering is 11;
1. The numbering should use Arabic numerals, letters and the symbol "_" as a hierarchical interval; 1. The symbol numbering format in the same standard should be unified, the number of characters should be the same, and "0" should be used to fill in the missing number of characters. See the symbol numbers in the numbering column in Table B.1 to Table B.7. 7.2 Symbol column
7.2.1 The order of symbols in the symbol column can be arranged according to the following principles: 1. Arrange the order according to professional classification: that is, divide the symbols according to the professional category, and arrange the order of symbols according to professional requirements. For example, GB/T4728.5 "Graphic Symbols for Electrical Schematics Part 5: Semiconductor Tubes and Electron Tubes" divides the graphic symbols into: semiconductor tubes, electron tubes, ionizing radiation detection devices and electrochemical device symbols. 1. Arrange the order according to functional classification: that is, divide the symbols according to their functions, and arrange the symbols with the same or similar functions together. 1. Arrange by classification: general symbols first, special symbols second; general symbols first, special symbols second, trunk symbols first, branch symbols second, etc.
1. Arrange by the Chinese phonetic alphabet of the symbol name: If the symbol cannot or does not need to be classified, arrange it by the Chinese phonetic alphabet of its name.
7.2.2 The table spacing of the symbol column of the graphic symbols used in technical documents should not be less than 20mm (see Table B.1). The graphic symbols should be as symmetrical as possible in the symbol column, and the ratio of the graphic symbols to the surrounding blank space should be appropriate. The grid system (0.1M or 0.125M) used for the design symbols should be described in accordance with the provisions of GB/16901.1.
7.2.3 Graphic symbols for equipment should be given together with the superscript (see Table B.2). The size of the square defined by the four superscripts should be 25mmX25mm. If the original image of the graphic symbol is given in the standard, the size of the square defined by the four superscripts should be 75mm×75mm (see Figure B.1).

7.2.4 Graphic signs generally have four shapes. Graphic signs of different shapes should be given in the symbol column according to the following dimensions (see Table B.4 to Table B.7):
The side length of a square sign is 45mm
The side length of an oblique square sign is 45mm; the diameter of a circular sign is 50mm;
The side length of an equilateral triangle sign is 63mm.
When the sign has a border, the above dimensions include the size of the border. If the sign specified in the standard has other content besides the graphic symbol, such as text, the given size should be based on the graphic symbol and should not include other content.
7.3 Name column
7.3.1 For each symbol, its corresponding name or meaning should be given in the name column. 7.3.2 According to the principle that one graphic symbol corresponds to one meaning (see GB/T16900), the name (or meaning) of the graphic symbol in the standard should correspond to the graphic symbol one by one, that is, there should not be a graphic symbol with the same name (or meaning) in a standard, and a graphic symbol should not have more than one name (or meaning).
7.3.3 In addition to the Chinese name, the corresponding English equivalent should be listed under the Chinese name in the name column. If the symbol in the standard is derived from an international standard or an advanced foreign standard, and there is a corresponding English equivalent, the English equivalent of the Chinese name of the symbol should be given in the standard. 7.4 Description column
7.4.1 The description column should generally give a more detailed description of the function of the listed symbol, specific usage occasions and other related contents. 7.4.2 If the symbol in the international standard is used, the corresponding international standard number and the symbol number (or registration number) of the symbol in the international standard should be listed.
Example 1: It is exactly the same as the symbol 027 in ISO70011990, which can be expressed as: ISO7001:1990 (027) Example 2: It is basically the same as the symbol 007 in ISO70011990, but with a few modifications, which can be expressed as: ISO7001, 1990 (007), modified 7.4.3 If a symbol quotes a symbol in a national standard or industry standard, the standard number of the national standard or industry standard quoted and the symbol number of the symbol in the standard should be listed. Example: Quoting the symbol 22 in GB/T10001-2000, it can be expressed as: Quoting GB/T10001-2000 (22) 7.4.4 When revising a standard, if a symbol replaces one or more symbols in the original standard, it is advisable to list the original standard number and the symbol number of the replaced symbol in the original standard.
Example: To replace the symbol numbered 8 in GB3818-1983, it can be expressed as: Replace GB3818-1983 (8) 7.4.5 Other contents related to the symbol can also be written as needed. These contents can also be written outside the table. 7.4.6 If all symbols can be understood without explanation and there is no other content that needs to be explained, the explanation column can be omitted (see Table B.4). 7.5 Registration number column
The registration number of the graphic symbol should be filled in this column. The registration procedures and requirements for graphic symbols shall be implemented in accordance with relevant regulations. 8 Layout format
The layout format and format requirements of the symbol standard shall comply with the provisions of Chapters 7 and 8 of GB/T1.1-2000. 6
