ICS 07.040 National Standard of the People's Republic of China GB/T18317—2001 Classify and codes for the thematic map information Classify and codes for the thematic map informationIssued on March 5, 2001 Implemented on September 1, 2001 Issued by the State Administration of Quality and Technical Supervision GB/T18317—2001 Principles and methods of information classification and coding Classification code table ITKANK GB/T18317—2001 This standard was drafted based on GB/T1.11993 "Guidelines for standardization work Unit 1: Rules for drafting and presentation of standards Part 1: Basic provisions for standardization" and GB/T7026—1986 "Guidelines for standardization work - Provisions for the preparation of information classification and coding standards". This standard is drafted based on the "Classification and Coding Scheme for Thematic Map Information" of the "Eighth Five-Year Plan" research project of the State Administration of Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation, and is first formulated after correction and supplementation based on the experience of comprehensive geographic information systems and land and resources mapping such as the Liaoning Provincial Land and Resources Information System. This standard is proposed and managed by the State Administration of Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation. The drafting unit of this standard is the Chinese Academy of Surveying and Mapping. The main drafters of this standard are Yao Xurong, Guo Qingsheng, Su Shanwu and Wang Hong. 1 Scope National Standard of the People's Republic of China Classify and codes for thematic map information Classify and codes for thematic map information This standard specifies the classification system and codes for thematic map macro information. This standard is applicable to the establishment of thematic map databases and the production of related digital products. 2 Definitions This standard adopts the following definitions. 2.1 Thematic map GB/T18317—2001 Thematic maps are maps that highlight the characteristics of one or more natural and human phenomena. All maps except ordinary maps and topographic maps belong to the category of thematic maps. 2.2 Thematic map information thematic map information is map information that highlights the characteristics of one or several natural and cultural phenomena. 3 Information classification, coding principles and methods 3.1 Information classification principles a) This standard specifies the macro classification system of thematic map information. b) The content information of thematic maps is the main classification object, and various mapping elements such as the mathematical basis of maps, symbolization methods and map description information are appropriately considered. c) With positioning information as the main body, a macro classification system of thematic map information is established. d) Basic geographic information is consistent with the first-level classification information of various related majors, or integrated information below the first level. e) Line classification is the main focus, and various positioning information is the basis to form a multi-level whole. At the same time, each layer of information maintains its own openness and extensibility. 3.2 Information coding principles a) The principle of equal length, regardless of the number of levels in the classification system, the code length is equal. b) Principle of uniqueness: each code uniquely represents a certain category, a certain level or a certain specific element. At the same time, each category, each level or each specific element has a unique code, that is, a one-to-one correspondence is established between data items and codes. c) Principle of scalability: the capacity of classification and the category of data will increase or decrease with the development of the system. The coding system provides a large expansion space for this. d) Principle of rationality: the structure of the coding system is adapted to the classification system of information, reflecting the characteristics of the objective system's hierarchy, mechanism and related connections. e) Principle of simplicity: the structure of the code is as simple as possible and the length is as short as possible to reduce computer storage space and the error rate of data entry, while improving the efficiency of machine processing. f) Principle of practicality: the meaning of the code is clear, reflecting the characteristics of the element to help memory. g) Principle of standardization: the structure, type and format of the code are unified to facilitate system retrieval and call. Approved by the State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine on March 5, 2001 and implemented on September 1, 2001 GB/T18317--2001 3.3 Information Classification According to the structural characteristics of information and its role in thematic mapping, thematic map information is divided into three subject categories: geographic basis, thematic information, and additional information. There are 10 first-level subcategories as follows (see the "Classification Code Table" for details): Geographic basis Basic geographic information Geographic unit Statistical unit Thematic information Natural conditions Natural resources Infrastructure Socio-economic Ecological environment Additional information Map text records 3.4 The information code adopts a six-digit code with the following structure: XX Third-level subcategory Second-level subcategory First-level subcategory Subject category The first digit represents the subject category, represented by a digit 1 to 9, the second digit represents the first-level subcategory, represented by a digit 1 to 9, the third and fourth digits represent the second-level subcategory, represented by two digits 01 to 99, the fifth and sixth digits represent the third-level subcategory, represented by two digits 01 to 99; the classification and codes of subcategory information of level 4 and below are specified in relevant professional standards. 4 Classification code table Subject category First-level subcategorySecond-level subcategoryThird-level subcategory 110101 110102 110201 110202 110203 110204 110205 Geographic basis Basic
