1 Scope
Guidelines for the Chinese translation of foreign place names Philippine language This guideline specifies the rules for the Chinese translation of Philippine place names. This guideline applies to the translation of Philippine place names into Chinese characters. Normative references

3 Terms and definitions
The terms and definitions determined in GB/T17693.1-2008 apply to this part. For ease of use, some terms and definitions in GB/T17693.1-2008 are repeated below. 3.1
Geographical names

4 General Principles
4.1 The proper names of places shall be transliterated.
4.2 The common names of places shall be translated literally.
4.3 The names translated by common Chinese characters and the names of places named after common names shall continue to be used, and the names derived from them shall be translated by the same names. The well-known place names commonly used by Chinese shall continue to be used.
4.4 In principle, the translation of place names shall adopt the standard place names in the country's latest published maps, place name directories, place name dictionaries, place name annals and other documents. 4.5 The Chinese characters used in the translation of Philippine place names shall be based on the "Philippine Chinese Transliteration Table" (see Table 1). The English, Spanish and other language words appearing in Philippine place names shall be translated according to the Chinese character translation guidelines for place names in the corresponding languages. The writing of Chinese characters shall be based on the general Chinese character standards promulgated by the State Language and Script Working Committee. Note 3: Note 1: The pronunciation of Chinese characters shall be based on the pronunciation of Mandarin. Note 2: The Chinese characters at the intersection of the vertical row of consonants and the horizontal row of vowels are the transliterated Chinese characters of the pronunciation of the consonants and vowels. The zero-row Chinese characters in the consonant are translated. Note 4: If the Chinese character translation produces a phenomenon of literal meaning, the homophone of the syllable should be used for translation. "弗" is used at the beginning of the translated name:

5 Rules
5.1 The Chinese characters of place names and proper names.
5.1.1 Proper names (including proper names) are generally transliterated. 5.1.2 When the proper name is monosyllabic, add the corresponding common name according to the geographical characteristics. MZ/T1302019
5.1.3 Except for the vowel combinations in Table 1, when two or more vowels are together in Philippine, they are generally translated separately. a) If two identical vowels appear consecutively in a place name, the two vowels are translated as two sounds. b) When the combination of ia, ie, and iu appears in a place name or at the end of a word, and a, e, and u do not form a syllable with the following letters in the word, y needs to be added after i when translating, i is included in the previous syllable, y is spelled with a, e, and u respectively, and translated into Chinese characters according to ya, ye, and yu in Table 1; if a, e, and u can form a syllable with the following letters in a word, y does not need to be added, i is included in the previous syllable, and a, e, and u are spelled with the following letters and translated directly.
c) When three vowels appear in a place name in succession, that is, vowel + i + vowel or vowel + uo + vowel, i should be changed to y, y is spelled with the following vowel: u/o should be changed to w, w is spelled with the following vowel. 5.1.4 In Philippine, kg, td, and pb are three groups of corresponding voiced and unvoiced consonants. The pronunciation parts of each group are similar and none of them are aspirated. The difference lies in whether the vocal cords vibrate or not. According to Chinese custom, voiceless and unvoiced consonants are distinguished by aspirated and unaspirated consonants, see Table 1. 5.1.5 ng is only at the beginning of a word, and is translated as ng in Table 1. 5.1.6 m is treated as n before b or p.
5.1.7 Consonants c, k, t, g, d, b, p, r, 1 appear alone at the end of a word, and are translated as Table 1. Consonant h appears alone at the end of a word, and is usually not translated.
aw is translated as aw in Table 1 when it is at the end of a word or followed by a consonant letter. 5.1.9 When San is written separately from the following part of a place name, San is usually translated as "圣". San, Santa, Santo, Saint (abbreviated as S. or St) are uniformly translated as "圣"
5.1.10 There are generally no compound consonants in Philippine. If there are such cases, they are generally foreign loanwords. In this case, they should be translated according to the corresponding foreign place name Chinese character translation guidelines. In some place names, ny and ly are the Filipino transliterations of the Spanish letters i and ll, respectively, and are translated according to the Spanish-Chinese Transliteration Table.
5.1.11.
