5.6 Determination of organic matter content by potassium dichromate volumetric method 5.6.1 Principle
Use a quantitative potassium dichromate-sulfuric acid solution under heating conditions. Oxidize the organic carbon in the organic-inorganic compound fertilizer, and titrate the remaining potassium dichromate with a standard ferrous sulfate solution. At the same time, use silicon dioxide as an additive for a blank test. Calculate the amount of organic carbon based on the oxidant consumption before and after oxidation, and multiply it by a coefficient of 1.724 to obtain the organic matter content. 5.6.2 Reagents and Materials
5.6.2.1 Silicon dioxide: powder.
5.6-2.2 Sulfuric acid (ol.84).
5.6.2.3 Phenanthroline indicator: weigh 1.485g of phenanthroline and 0.695g of ferrous sulfate and dissolve in 100mL of water, store in a brown bottle.
5.6.2.4 Potassium dichromate-sulfuric acid solution: c (1/6KCrzO,) = 0.5mol/L, weigh 49.03g of potassium dichromate and dissolve in 600mL~800mL of water, dilute to 1L with water, transfer the solution to a 3L large beaker. Take another 1L of concentrated sulfuric acid and slowly add it to the potassium dichromate solution, stirring continuously. To avoid the solution from heating up rapidly, place the large beaker in a basin filled with cold water to cool it down. After adding about 100 mL of sulfuric acid, wait for a while and add another part of sulfuric acid when the solution temperature drops to a level that is not too hot to touch. 5.6.2.5 Potassium dichromate standard solution: c1/6KzCr20,) = 0.4000mol/L. Weigh 19.612g potassium dichromate (superior purity) that has been dried at 130C for 2~~3h, dissolve it in a small amount of water, then transfer it to a 1L volumetric flask without damage, and mix it to volume. 5.6.2.6 Ferrous sulfate standard solution: Weigh 112g ferrous sulfate (FeSO.*7HO), dissolve it in 800mL of water, add 20mL of sulfuric acid (5.6.2.2), slowly add it to the ferrous sulfate solution, dilute it to 1L with water (filter if necessary), mix it evenly and store it in a brown bottle. This solution 2

is easily oxidized by air. Its accurate concentration should be calibrated with potassium dichromate standard solution each time it is used. Calibration: Pipette 20mL of potassium dichromate standard solution (5.6.2.5) into a 250mL conical flask, add 5mL of sulfuric acid (5.6.2.2), 50mL~60mL of water, and 5 drops of o-phenanthroline indicator. Titrate with ferrous sulfate standard solution until the solution changes from orange-yellow to blue-green and finally to brown-red as the end point. According to the consumption of ferrous sulfate solution, calculate its accurate concentration according to formula (1): c2:GXV
Where:
The concentration of potassium dichromate standard solution, in moles per liter (mol/L): C
V-the volume of potassium dichromate standard solution absorbed, in milliliters (mL); V. ——The volume of ferrous sulfate standard solution consumed during titration, in milliliters (mL) 5.6.3 Instruments
Usually laboratory instruments and water baths.
.....(1)
5.6.4 Analysis steps
5.6.4.1 Prepare laboratory samples according to GB/T8571 and grind them to pass through a 0.5 mm sieve. Weigh 0.05-0.5 g (accurate to 0.0001) of the sample (the amount of sample weighed depends on the organic matter content) into a 250 mL conical flask, and accurately add 25.0 mL of potassium dichromate-sulfuric acid solution (5.6.2.4). After shaking thoroughly, add a small curved neck funnel, place in boiling water and keep warm for 30 minutes, shaking every 5 minutes. Take out and cool to room temperature, rinse the small funnel with water, collect the washing liquid in a conical flask, add water to 120mL, add 6 drops of o-Phthiophene indicator (5.6.2.3), and titrate with ferrous sulfate standard solution (5.6.2.6) until it turns brownish red. At the same time, replace the sample with silicon dioxide (5.6.2.1), and perform a blank test according to the same analytical steps and using the same reagents. If the amount of ferrous sulfate standard solution used to titrate the sample is less than one-third of the amount of ferrous sulfate standard solution used in the blank test, the sample weight should be reduced and re-measured. 5.6.4.2 Determination of chloride ion content: Determine the chloride ion content c (%) according to the provisions of 5.7 of GB15063-2001. 5.6.5 Calculation and expression of analysis results
5.6.5.1 Calculation
Organic matter content is expressed as mass percentage (%) and is calculated according to formula (2): [V-V) Xc X0.03 ×100 -- 0.084 7]×1. 724.. 2) Organic matter (%) =
