This part is Part 5 of GB/T 30544. This part is drafted according to the tariff given in ISO/T 1.1-2009. This part uses the French translation equivalent ISO/TS 80004-5:20118 Nanotechnology Terminology Part 5: Nano/Bio Interface 3. This part has made the following editorial changes: In addition to the French language text in the ISO/TS 800045:2011 international technical specification. This part was proposed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. This part was submitted by the National Nanotechnology Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC279). The drafting unit of this part: National Nanoscience Center. The main drafters of this part: Liu Renxiao Ge Guanglu Gao Jie GB/T 30544.5—2014/IS0/TS 80004-5:2011 Introduction The interaction between nanotechnology and biology is one of the most exciting areas in modern science and one of the most promising frontiers in technology. This field provides new avenues for biomedical and pharmaceutical research, and also enhances the understanding of the absorption and distribution of nano-objects in organisms, including the delivery of drugs in the human body by high-tech means, the development of highly sensitive and selective (bio)chemical sensors, and the use of advanced technologies to repair environmental pollution. In addition, it has been found that the structure of many biological materials (such as bones) is at the nanoscale, and there are many nanoscale entities in organisms, making the application of nanotechnology in biology possible. Terms related to the non-biological (nano) field at the nano/bio interface. Only those terms that have not been fully defined in the field of biochemistry are included in this section. Similarly, for the biological field at the bio/nano interface, terms with specific applications at the nano/bio interface are included. Therefore, although the scope of the term can include objects used for non-biological tracing, such objects can be described using existing physical chemistry and molecular biology terms. Nano/bio includes two aspects: the former nanobio refers to the effect of nanotechnology on biological effects, while the former bionano means the effect of biological effects on nanotechnology. The terms in this part focus on the area between nanotechnology and biological effects, such as nanoparticles attached to the surface of living cells, or living cells attached to nanostructured matrices. If the focus is on biological effects, it is appropriate to express it as nano-biointerface; on the other hand, if the focus is on how nanomaterials are modified by biological substances, it is appropriate to express it as bio-nanointerface. If both aspects are concerned, it is expressed as nano/biointerface. This part involves the basic concepts of the terms, rather than their specific uses (such as drug delivery, dentistry or plastic surgery). The terms in the current nano/biointerface terminology standard can be considered to cover only a small part of this field. Considering the rapid development of the nano/bio interface field, it is expected that more technical scope will be added in the next version CB/T 30544.5—2014/IS0/TS 80004-5.2011 Nanotechnology Terminology Part 5: Nano/Bio Interface This technical part of GB/T 30541 defines terms and definitions related to the interface between nanomaterials and biological systems, and aims to facilitate communication between scientists, engineers, technicians, designers, manufacturers, regulators, non-governmental organizations, consumer organizations, the public and other people interested in the following content: Application of nanotechnology in biology and biotechnology: Application of biological systems and biological theories to nanotechnology. 2 Terms related to other parts of GB/T 30544 terminology standard The following terms are used in this part and have been defined in other parts of GB/T 30511 terminology standard. They are only repeated based on the needs of the content and for better understanding: 2.1 Nanoscale The size range between 1nm and 100nm. Note 1: This size range usually, but not exclusively, exhibits characteristics that cannot be obtained in larger sizes. For these properties, the upper and lower limits are close. Note: The lower limit (about 1 m) is introduced in this definition for the sake of simplicity: a single or atom is considered to be an effective nanostructure unit. Nanoscience 2nanuscience The discipline that studies the properties and phenomena occurring at the nanoscale that are significantly different from those of individual atoms, molecules or bulk materials and are related to size and structure. nanotechnnlogy New technology Nanoscience The application of scientific knowledge to manipulate and control matter at the nanoscale (2.7) to utilize properties and phenomena that are significantly different from those of individual atoms, molecules or bulk materials and are related to size and structure. Note: Manipulation and control include material synthesis. 2.4 nanomaterials nanomateri -materials with external dimensions and internal or surface structures at the nanometer scale Note 1: This general term includes nanomaterials and nanostructured materials. Note 2: See engineered nanomaterials, artificial nanomaterials and biomaterials GB/T 30544.5—2014/IS0/TS 80004-5:2011 Terms and definitions nanobiotechnology nanobiotechnology Application of nanoscience (2.2) or nanotechnology (2.3) to biology or biotechnology.
