National Standard of the People's Republic of China
Method for the determination ofresistance to water of pigments
Method for the determination ofresistance to water of pigments This standard is a general test method for pigments, used to determine the water resistance of pigments. 1 Definition
UDC 667.622
:667.613.3
GB 5211.5-85
When pigments come into contact with water, they will cause water staining due to their slight solubility in water. The water resistance of pigments refers to the ability of pigments to resist the dissolution of water and cause water-activated color.
2 Materials and instruments and equipment
2.1 Distilled water: should be boiled and cooled to room temperature before use. 2.2 Days: 0.001g. bzxz.net
2.3 Test solution: 25ml, with magic cold.
2.4 Electric oscillator: oscillation frequency 280±5 times/min, oscillation amplitude 40±2mm. 2.5 Fine-pore crucible: maximum capacity 25ml.
2.6 Filter bottle: capacity 125ml.
2.7 Filter paper: slow, should comply with the provisions of GB1915-80 "Qualitative filter paper". 2.8 Colorimetric 1: thickness 0.5cm, height 6.4cm. 2.9 Colorimetric stand: the colorimetric stand has two holes, just pick up the colorimetric 1, the background is color. Active gray grading card: use the gray grading card of GB251-84 "Gray sample card for evaluating staining". 2.10
3 Determination steps
A parallel test is required.
3.1 Preparation of test solution
3.1.1 Using cold water
Weigh 0.5g of the pigment sample, weigh to 0.001g, put it into a test tube (2.3), add 20ml of distilled water (2.1), cover tightly, place the water on an oscillator (2.4), and oscillate for 5min. Remove and let stand for 30min. Pour into a fine-pore equalizing crucible (2.5) covered with 3 layers of filter paper (2.7), and vacuum filter until a clear filtrate is obtained. 3.1.2 Using hot water
Weigh 0.5g of the pigment sample, weigh to 0.001g, put it into a test tube (2.3), add 20ml of boiling distilled water, fully wet the pigment, and heat it in a boiling water bath for 10min. Take it out, cool it to room temperature, pour it into a fine-mesh crucible (2.5) covered with three layers of filter paper (2.7), and vacuum filter until a clear filtrate is obtained. 3.2 Evaluation of color grade
Fill two colorimetric dishes (2.8) with distilled water and the prepared clear filtrate (3.1.1 or 3.1.2), respectively, and place the two colorimetric dishes in the holes of the colorimetric stand (2.9), respectively. Under natural light facing north, the incident light is at a 45° angle to the object being observed, and the observation direction is perpendicular to the surface of the object being observed. Compare it with the gray grading card for staining (2.10) to evaluate the staining grade. 3.3 Parallel test results
The grades obtained from parallel tests should be the same.

Results Expression
GB 5211.5 --85
The evaluated staining level is directly used to indicate the water resistance of the pigment, with the best being level 5 and the worst being level 1. The staining degree of the filtrate is between the two levels, with 4-5, 3-4,
2-3, and 1-2 indicating the smallest.
5 Test Report
The test report should include the following:
Type and name of the test sample,
Whether cold or hot water was used for the test:
The water resistance level of the obtained pigment;
Abnormal phenomena occurred in Test A:
Test date, test personnel.
Additional Notes:
