SC 1037--2000 3 Name and classification 3.1 Scientific name Channu argu (Cantor). 3.2 Classification position Perriformea, family Channidac, genus Channa, 4 Main morphological and structural characteristics 4.1 External morphological characteristics 4.1.1 Appearance The body is elongated and cylindrical, with the tail laterally flattened. The head is pointed and flat, with the top of the face, gill cover bones, trunk and body covered with scales. The mouth is large and terminal, with oblique mouth cleft extending behind the eye, and the lower forehead is protruding. There are sharp and fine teeth on the upper and lower jaws, bones and jaws. The bases of the dorsal and anal fins are very long, extending to the base of the caudal fin. The base of the fin is located in front and above the base of the pelvic fin. The pectoral fin is rounded and ends at the middle of the abdomen. The caudal fin is rounded, with many irregular black spots on the sides of the body, two longitudinal black stripes on the sides of the head, and black spots on the base of the pectoral scales.
