Lip seals for rotating shafts
Storage, maintenance and installation
HG2330—92
This standard is equivalent to the international standard ISO6194.3-—1988 "Lip seals for rotating shafts Part 2: Storage, maintenance and installation", 1 Subject content and scope of application
This standard specifies the requirements and methods for the storage, packaging, maintenance and installation of rotary shaft lip seals (hereinafter referred to as seals). This standard applies to the storage, maintenance, installation, and various hazards and prevention methods of seals. 2 Reference standards
GB13871 Basic dimensions and tolerances of rotary shaft lip seals 3 Storage
3.1 Seals should be properly stored, because storage will affect the performance of the seal and directly affect the service life of bearings and other valuable mechanical parts. The hazards that seals may encounter during storage include: high or low temperatures, ozone, radioactive materials, smoke, insects, rodents, dust, sand, mechanical damage, etc. 3.2 The sealed warehouse should be kept cool (below 30℃). The average humidity is 40%~70%. Too much humidity can also cause some sealing ring materials to deteriorate, and the metal skeleton and elastic material of the sealing ring can also be damaged by corrosion. 3.3 The sealing ring should be stored according to the principle of "first in, first out". Because even under ideal storage conditions, long-term storage can cause material deterioration.
3.4 To delay ozone aging, the sealing ring should be kept away from direct light or reflected light, as well as electrical equipment that may produce ozone. Excessive heat or ozone erosion will cause the sealing ring to age and reduce its service life. 3.5 To prevent the aging of the sealing ring material, the sealing ring should be protected from radioactive materials and smoke. 3.6 The sealing ring should be protected from insects and rodents. 3.7 The sealing ring should be stored in a suitable place and should not be placed in the working area to avoid mechanical damage caused by equipment or falling objects. 3.8 When stacking paper boxes with sealing rings, pay attention to the right amount to avoid overweight and crushing the sealing ring at the bottom of the box. 4 Packaging
4.1 The sealing ring should be packed in different reliable and economical packaging methods to ensure that it is not damaged during transportation and storage. The specific requirements shall be agreed upon by both the supply and demand parties.
4.2 Commonly used packaging methods include bagging, boxing or boxing. When unpacking, do not use sharp tools such as knives, scissors, screwdrivers, etc. to prevent cutting or tearing the sealing ring
4.3 Before the installation preparation is completed, the sealing ring should not be removed from the packaging to avoid damage, confusion of marks and pollution. 5 Maintenance
5.1 The sealing ring should be carefully maintained after removing the packaging. Prevent damage before assembly. In particular, it is necessary to strictly prevent damage to the lip of the sealing ring. Approved by the Ministry of Chemical Industry of the People's Republic of China on June 1, 1992 and implemented on July 1, 1993
HG2330-92
5.2 It is absolutely not allowed to hang the sealing ring with wire, string, etc. or hang the sealing ring on the hook to avoid damaging the sealing lip and affecting the seal.
5.3 The exposed skeleton sealing ring is easy to damage the rubber part of the adjacent sealing ring, so it must be properly maintained. 5.4 The sealing ring should not be mixed with other workpieces and piled on the workbench to avoid being contaminated by sand, debris or other foreign matter. The pre-lubricated sealing ring should be kept clean. 5.5 When cleaning the sealing ring, the user should use the appropriate cleaning fluid and method recommended by the manufacturer to avoid damage to the sealing ring and failure. 6 Installation of the sealing ring
6.1 The sealing ring should be checked before installation to ensure that the sealing ring is clean and intact. 6.2 The lip of the sealing ring should be coated with a suitable clean lubricant before installation. The sealing ring used for dust prevention should be coated with appropriate grease. 6.3 Normally, the front surface of the sealing lip of the sealing ring should face the sealed liquid. 6.4 The shaft end and the hole in the cavity should have a guide chamfer that complies with the provisions of GB13871. 6.5 The verticality of the installation is a characteristic factor of the sealing ring. The verticality is achieved by pressing the sealing ring into the cavity to be flush with the front end face of the cavity hole or against the bottom end face of the cavity hole shoulder. 6.6 The installation tool for pressing the sealing ring into the installation position is shown in Figure 1. Through the hole: the installation tool that reaches the end face of the cavity hole 6.7 The installation of the sealing ring can be generally flush with the front end face of the cavity hole, or close to the bottom end face of the cavity hole, as shown in Figures 2 and 3, but in both cases, the reference surface for installation positioning should be a machined surface. Unprocessed reference surfaces cannot be used to avoid the seal ring from being installed skewed.

6.9 During the installation process, any surface over which the lip of the sealing ring slides should be smooth and undamaged. If the sealing ring is to slide over a shaft with splines, keyways or holes, the special installation tool shown in Figure 5 should be used. This special tool should not be made of soft metal (such as aluminum), and installation tools with notches are not allowed.

Figure 5 Installation tools used for sealing rings sliding over shafts with splines, keyways or holes 6.10 If the mating part (shaft) must be forced to pass through the working surface of the sealing ring, the diameter of the sliding part of the shaft can be reduced by 0.2mm. The sealing ring designed for the original shaft can still be used without affecting its sealing performance. See Figure 6. 6.11 When installing the inner skeleton sealing ring, a thin layer of suitable lubricant should be applied to the outer edge of the sealing ring to facilitate the installation of the sealing ring into the cavity. During the assembly process, a uniform speed and pressure should be used to prevent the spring from falling off. 6.12 If the sealing ring must be installed at low temperature, the sealing ring can be installed on a clean and dry surface below 50°C. Place it in the same liquid as the sealing liquid for 10 to 15 minutes to restore the elasticity of the sealing ring lip. po

This can be achieved by installing gaskets, changing bushings and slip rings, and changing the depth of the pressure cavity.
