1.1 This standard specifies the layout of the alphabetical area on the keyboard of GB8045—87 "Mongolian seven-bit and eight-bit coded graphic character set for information processing interchange".
1.2 This standard specifies the layout of the alphabetical area on the keyboard of GB 1988—80 "Seven-bit coded character set for information processing interchange" in accordance with GB 2787—81 "Alphanumeric area layout of keyboard of seven-bit coded character set for information processing interchange". 1.3 The layout of the keyboard letter area only indicates the relative position of the keys. The key position numbers marked in the layout diagram are for reference only. 1.4 This standard applies to the keyboard device equipped with information processing and switching equipment. The keyboard device should also have the function of processing the characters specified in GB1988.
2 Definition of terms
2.1 Language key
The language key determines the language processed by the keyboard. When the key is in the original state, the keyboard processes the Mongolian characters specified in GB8045. When the key is in the removed (locked) state, the keyboard processes the characters specified in GB1988. 2.2 Sorting key
The sorting key determines whether the keyboard processes the seven-bit Mongolian characters or the eight-bit Mongolian characters specified in GB8045. This key only works when the language key is in the original state. When the key is in the original state, the keyboard processes eight Mongolian characters. When the key is in the down (locked state), the keyboard processes seven Mongolian characters.

3.2 In Figures 1 and 2, when the language key is in the original state, the keyboard processes the Mongolian characters specified in GB8045. The letter keys produce Mongolian letters or symbols marked at the lower left of the key surface in the non-shift mode, and produce Mongolian letters or symbols marked at the upper left of the key surface in the shift mode. The generated code depends on the state of the sorting key (eight or seven bits). When the language key is in the down (locked) state, the keyboard processes the characters specified in GB1988. The letter keys produce lowercase letters and graphic characters marked at the lower part of the key in the non-shift mode, and produce uppercase letters and graphic characters marked at the upper part of the key surface in the shift mode. 3.9 The keyboard control mode is selected by the text type key, the sorting key and the transfer key. When the text type key and the sorting key are in the original state, the transfer key is pressed.
