Introduction to standards:

This standard specifies the determination of bulk density of metal powders by the Scott volumetric method. This method is applicable to metal powders that cannot flow freely through a funnel with a hole diameter of 5 mm in the funnel method and that are prone to change properties by the vibrating funnel method. This standard is equivalent to the international standard ISO 3923/2 "Determination of bulk density of metal powders - Part 2: Scott volumetric method". This standard specifies the determination of the apparent density of metal powders by the Scott volumetric method. This method is applicable to metal powders that cannot flow freely through a funnel with a hole diameter of 5 mm and that are easily changed by the perturbation funnel-bucket method. This standard is equivalent to the international standard ISO3923/2 "Determination of apparent density of metal powders-Part 2: Scott volumetric method". 1 Principle
Metal powder is put on the screen in the upper combined funnel, and flows into the material box naturally or with external force, alternately passes through the four glass plates with an inclination angle of 25" and the square funnel in the material box, and finally flows into the net column cup of known volume in a loose state. Then weigh the mass of the metal powder in the cylindrical ring.
2 Instrument
2.1 Scott volume meter (as shown in the figure) includes: one is assembled by two conical funnels, the closing of which is separated by a cylindrical section and a brass screen with an aperture of 2.1.1 Upper combined funnel
, 1.18mm.
The cross section is square, with four glass plates obliquely inlaid on the aluminum 2.1.2 Material distribution box -
glass baffles on the front and back walls of the frame, and easy to disassemble and assemble for cleaning.
2.1.a Square funnel - a 60° square cone with a lower port diameter of 12.5mm×12.5mm. 2.1.4 Cylindrical cup - a volume of 25±0.05cm2 and an inner diameter of 30±1mm. 2.1.5 Overflow tray - used to hold excess metal powder. 2.1. Stand - used to support the upper combined funnel, material distribution box, square funnel, cylindrical cup, and overflow tray, and make them coaxially at the height shown in the figure below. Use the three screws of the stand (two adjustable, one non-adjustable) to adjust the level. 2.2 Balance - used to weigh metal powder samples with an accuracy of 0.05g. Scott volumetric meter
1—brass sieve, 2—combination juice: 3—material distribution box, 4—square funnel, 5—round support cup, 6—overflow tray: stand Note: The round support cup and all funnels are made of non-magnetic, wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant metal materials, and yellow scale is mostly used. To prevent deformation and excessive wear, it should have a certain thickness and hardness. The inner surface of the cylindrical cup and funnel should be polished. a Sampling
3.1 When determining the bulk density of each metal powder, at least 100cm3 of sample should be taken in three parts. 3.2 Usually, metal powder is not measured according to the received state. In some cases, metal powder should not be dried. However, if the powder is easily oxidized, it should be dried under vacuum or inert atmosphere protection. If the metal powder contains volatile substances, drying is not allowed. 4 Operation ||tt| |4.1 Use a spoon to carefully place the metal powder on the screen of the upper combined funnel, pass it through the cloth box and square funnel, and flow it into the cylindrical cup until it is full and powder overflows.
4.2 If the powder cannot pass through the screen freely, brush it with a soft brush to make the metal powder pass through the screen. If it does not work, then the metal powder is not suitable for the determination of bulk density by the sieve method. 4.3 If powder overflows from the cylindrical cup, use a stainless steel ruler to scrape it flat. But do not compress or bring out the powder in the cup, and do not shake the cup. 506085
or perturbation.
.4 After scraping, tap the cup gently to make the powder sink; avoid the powder from being lost during the shaking process, and do not allow the powder to stick to the outer surface of the cup.
4.5 Weigh the metal powder in the cylindrical cup to an accuracy of 0.05g. Calculation of test results
The ratio of the mass of the metal powder to the volume is the bulk density, which is calculated as follows: =--
-The loose density of metal powder measured by the Scott volumetric method, B/cm\, where Pas—
the mass of metal powder,
-the volume of loose metal powder, cm3.
Take the arithmetic mean of the three measurement results and report the final result, accurate to 0.01g/cm3. When the difference between the three measurement results exceeds 1% of the average value, the maximum and minimum values shall also be reported with the results. B. Test report
The test report shall include the following:||tt| |No. of this standard +
Necessary instructions for identification of the sample:
If the powder has been dried or otherwise treated, the treatment process should be described. c.
Calculation results.
Other operations not specified in this standard:
Detailed description of any phenomenon that may affect the test results. Additional instructions
