National Standard of the People's Republic of China Graphic symbols for instructions for use of textiles and clothing Care labelling code of textiles and apparel UDC 658.62.004 .2: 003.$2/ GB 8685--88 This standard refers to and adopts the international standard ISO/DP3758/5 "ISO Recommendations on Graphic Symbols for Instructions for Use of Textiles and Apparel". 1 Subject content and scope of application This standard specifies the graphic symbols and their meanings for instructions for use of textiles and clothing, provides a basis for production units to prepare instructions for use, and provides instructions for use information to consumers and relevant social service departments. This standard applies to all kinds of textiles and clothing. 2 Reference standards GB3291 Textile terminology (common part of textile materials and textile products) 3 Terminology 3.1 Textiles A general term for textile industry products that have been processed by weaving, printing, dyeing or reproduction and can be used directly or require further processing. Such as yarn, thread, rope, fabric, towel, sheet, blanket, socks, tablecloth, etc. (see GB3291, Section 1.1.3). 3.2 Washing Place textiles or garments in a container of water for washing. Washing includes the following operations: immersion, pre-washing, conventional washing (usually heating, applying mechanical action, adding detergent) and rinsing. Dehydration, that is, drying or wringing during or at the end of washing. Washing can be done by machine or by hand. 3.3 Chlorine bleaching Use chlorine bleach in aqueous solution before, during or after washing to improve whiteness and remove stains. 3.4 Ironing Ironing is performed on textiles or garments using appropriate tools and equipment to restore their shape and appearance. 3.5 Dry cleaning Washing textiles or garments using organic solvents, including necessary stain removal, rinsing, dehydration and drying. 3.6 Drying after washing After washing, remove the residual moisture on the textiles or clothing. If it is not suitable to spin dry or wring dry, it can be directly dripped dry. Basic graphic symbols 4.1 There are five basic graphic symbols for the instructions for use of textiles and clothing, see Table 1. Necessary graphic symbols can be selected according to the performance and requirements of textiles or garments. 6.3 Color of graphic symbols For graphic symbols directly printed or woven on textiles, they should be clearly displayed according to the background color. The color of the label is generally white as the background color and black as the graphic symbol. The symbol "×" can also be red to make it more eye-catching. The graphic symbols on the same instruction manual should use the same color. The graphic symbols should remain clear and legible. Supplementary explanatory terms 'When the graphic symbols cannot meet the needs, supplementary explanatory terms can be applied.
