Introduction to standards:

This standard specifies the normal values of thyroid volume for children and adolescents (6 to 17 years old) in my country. This standard is applicable to the evaluation of iodine deficiency by B-type ultrasound, the evaluation of the error of thyroid palpation, and the evaluation of the prevention and treatment of iodine deficiency. It is also applicable to the monitoring and assessment of iodine deficiency. Some standard content:

GB16398-1996
This standard is equivalent to Table 5: Normal values of thyroid volume in the "Indicators for the Assessment of Iodine Deficiency Disorders and Their Prevention and Control Programs" jointly recommended by the World Health Organization, the United Nations Children's Fund, and the International Council for the Control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders. It was approved from November 3 to 5, 1992, and revised in September 1993.
This standard has made slight editorial changes to the above standards, measuring the normal values of thyroid volume for adult males and females, deleting the 50th percentile column, and arranging the age from 6 to 17 years old. Appendix A of this standard is the standard appendix. Appendix B of this standard is the indicative appendix. This standard was proposed by the Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China. The drafting unit of this standard: Iodine Deficiency Disorders Research Institute of China Endemic Disease Control and Prevention Research Center. The main drafters of this standard: Liu Shoujun, Zhang Xufeng, Zhang Zhaojun. This standard is interpreted by the China Endemic Disease Control and Prevention Research Center, the technical unit entrusted by the Ministry of Health. 481
1 Scope
National Standard of the People's Republic of China
Normal value of thyroid
volume in children and adolescents This standard specifies the normal value of thyroid volume in children and adolescents (6-17 years old) in my country. GB16398-1996
This standard is applicable to the evaluation of iodine deficiency by B-type ultrasound, the evaluation of the error of thyroid palpation, and the evaluation of the prevention and treatment of iodine deficiency. It is also applicable to the monitoring and assessment of iodine deficiency. Normal value of thyroid volume (Table 1)

3 Examination and calculation method
Age, years
Normal value of thyroid volume, mL
For the technical requirements for B-ultrasound examination of thyroid volume, see Appendix A (Appendix to the standard), and for instructions on the correct use of the standard, see Appendix B (Appendix to the suggestion).
Approved by the State Administration of Technical Supervision on May 23, 1996 482
Implemented on December 1, 1996
A1 Requirements for instruments and equipment

Appendix A
(Appendix to the standard)
Technical requirements for B-ultrasound examination of thyroid volume A1.1 The frequency of the B-ultrasound probe is required to be 5MHz or above. A1.2 The homemade water bag should be made of a thinner infusion (blood) bag with better transparency, filled with cold boiled water or distilled water, and bubbles should be avoided in the bag. The thickness of the water bag should be between 2 and 3cm.
A2 Measurement method
A2.1 When measuring with a homemade water bag, the subject should lie on his back with the back of the neck raised to fully expose the thyroid area. First, apply the coupling agent evenly on the skin. After placing the water bag, apply the coupling agent evenly on the water bag. Then use the probe to sweep the thyroid gland horizontally up and down to read the maximum width of the thyroid gland (i.e. the left-right diameter, represented by 6). Then use the probe to sweep longitudinally to read the maximum thickness of the thyroid gland (i.e. the front-back diameter, represented by c) and the maximum length (i.e. the upper-lower diameter, represented by α).
A2.2 If there is already a water bag in the probe, there is no need to make a water bag yourself. The subject can sit or stand, tilt the head back slightly, fully expose the thyroid gland, and the measurement sequence is the same as above.
A3 Thyroid volume calculation formula
V0.479XaXbXc/1000
Where: V-thyroid volume, mL,
-the length of each lobe of the thyroid gland, mm;
b-the width of each lobe of the thyroid gland, mm; the thickness of each lobe of the thyroid gland, mm.
(1))
The sum of the volumes of the left and right lobes is the total volume of the thyroid gland. For some examinees, the isthmus is obviously enlarged. In this case, its volume should be calculated in the same way as the lateral lobe. In this way, the total volume should be the sum of the isthmus volume and the volumes of the two lobes. A4 Precautions
A4.1 When measuring the length, width and thickness of the thyroid gland, the operator must be trained. A4.2 When the probe is scanning horizontally or vertically to prepare for reading, there must be no bubbles in the water bag under the probe, otherwise the thyroid gland will be blurred and the reading will be inaccurate.
Appendix B
(Suggested Appendix)
Instructions for the correct use of the standard
B1 The method for calculating the rate of thyroid enlargement can be calculated separately for each age group according to the actual situation and different requirements, or it can be added up for a total calculation, that is, the sum of all cases of thyroid enlargement in each age group, as a percentage of the total number of examinees. The calculation method of age in Table 1 is equal to the difference between the survey year and the birth year. For example, if the survey year is 1994 and the birth year is 1984, then the age of the examinee is 1994-1984-10 years old.
