1 Scope
Guidelines for Standardization Work Part 10: General Rules for Translation of English Versions of National Standards
GB/T20000.10—2016
This part of GB/T20000 specifies the translation and format requirements for English versions of national standards and national standardization guidance technical documents (hereinafter collectively referred to as national standards).
This part applies to the translation and publication of English versions of national standards, and the English translations of other standards can be used as a reference. 2 Normative References
The following documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For any dated referenced document, only the dated version applies to this document. For any undated referenced document, its latest version (including all amendments) applies to this document. 3.1 The structure and content of the English translation of national standards should be consistent with the structure and content of national standards. 3.2 The English translation of national standards should accurately convey the information of national standards. 3.3 The sentence structure and rhetoric methods of the English translation of national standards should conform to the expression habits of English, the text should be clear and fluent, and the quality of English (translation) should comply with GB/T19682
3.4 ​​The general expression of the English translation of national standards shall be implemented in accordance with the provisions of GB/T20000.11. 3.5 The layout of the English translation of national standards should adopt the head layout, the first line of all paragraphs should be aligned with the left line, and one blank line should be left between paragraphs.
3.6 The standard font size and font requirements of the English translation of national standards are shown in Appendix A. 4 Elements
4.1 Cover
4.1.1 The cover of the English translation of the national standard should retain the basic information of the national standard. 4.1.2 Add "(English Translation)" under the English translation of the national standard, see Appendix B4.2 Name
4.2.1 The standard name of the English translation of the national standard should be consistent with the English translation of the national standard, and the Chinese standard name should be retained and placed on the next line of the English standard name, aligned to the left.
4.2.2 The English translation of the standard name of the English translation of the national standard should be aligned to the left of the column line. The format and examples are shown in Appendix B.

4.3.1 "Contents\ should be left-aligned
The page numbers indicated in the table of contents should be determined according to the English translation of the national standard. 4.3.2
4.4 Foreword
4.4.1“Foreword\ should be aligned to the left.
4.4.2 In addition to retaining the contents of the national standard, the English translation of the national standard should also add a statement in the first paragraph of the foreword, which should be: SAC/TC XX× is in charge of this English translation. In case of any doubt about the contents of English translation, the Chinese original shall be considered authoritative.4.4.3 The English translation of the national standard should delete the information of the drafting unit and the drafter of the national standard.4.5 Introduction
“Introduction\ should be aligned to the left.
4.6 Normative references
The English translation of the standard name of the referenced document shall directly adopt the English translation of the referenced document. If the normative references include international foreign standards, only their English names shall be adopted. The standard names are indicated in italics. 4.7 Terms and definitions
Terms shall directly adopt their English counterparts. Terms and definitions have their first letter in lowercase (except for proper nouns) and no final period. Example:

5.1 Abbreviations
In the English translation of the national standard, abbreviations may be used for well-known, or repeatedly appearing and long phrases or words for the sake of concise expression, but the full phrase should be used the first time it appears, and the abbreviation should be indicated in brackets after the phrase. Personal names, group names, and institution names
Personal names shall be translated in accordance with the provisions of GB/T28039
Group names and institution names

If group names and institution names have official translations, their commonly used English translations shall be used directly. If there are no commonly used English translations, they shall be translated according to English conventions. 5.3 Documents
The names of laws, regulations and normative documents shall adopt the official or established translation, and the names of other documents, works and documents shall also adopt the established translation. If there is no established translation, it shall be translated according to English conventions. 3
