Notice on the approval and issuance of "Specifications for Construction and Acceptance of Masonry Engineering"
(83) Chengkezi No. 78
The national standard "Specifications for Construction and Acceptance of Masonry Engineering" has been reviewed and finalized by the Shaanxi Provincial Construction Commission, the Construction Engineering Bureau, and the relevant units of Tianjin, Fujian, Shandong, Yunnan and other provinces and cities. It is now approved for issuance and a copy has been sent to the State Economic Commission for registration. It will be implemented from September 1, 1983, with the number: GBJ203-83. The management and interpretation of the specification will be the responsibility of the Masonry Engineering Specification Group of the Shaanxi Provincial Construction Engineering Bureau. It is hoped that the problems and opinions encountered in the implementation will be notified to them in writing for reference when revising.

Revision Notes
This specification is based on the Notice No. 168 of the former National Capital Construction Committee (79) Jianfa Shizi and the Notice No. 385 of the former State Construction Engineering Bureau (80) Jiangong Kezi. Our Bureau, together with the provincial and municipal construction engineering bureaus of Shandong, Yunnan, Fujian, Tianjin and Xi'an Institute of Metallurgy and Architecture, formed a revision group to jointly revise the "Specifications for Construction and Acceptance of Masonry Engineering" GBJ14-66 (revised version). During the revision process, a relatively extensive investigation and research was conducted, some necessary experimental work was done, and opinions from relevant parties across the country were solicited. Finally, a national review meeting was held to review and finalize the draft. This specification consists of seven chapters, 128 articles and seven appendices. The main revisions include: changing the name of the original specification to "Specifications for Construction and Acceptance of Masonry Engineering"; deleting the two chapters of sergeant wall engineering and block and wallboard engineering in the original specification; and adding relevant provisions on construction in earthquake-resistant areas, hollow brick masonry of load-bearing walls, production, maintenance and compressive strength of mortar test blocks. During the implementation process, please pay attention to accumulating information, summarizing experience, and send us the opinions that need to be modified or supplemented for reference in future revisions.

Chapter 1 General Provisions
Article 1.0.1 This code applies to the construction and acceptance of masonry works in industrial and civil buildings.
This code does not apply to masonry works of railways, highways and hydraulic structures.
Article 1.0.2 In addition to being implemented in accordance with this code, masonry engineering of buildings in earthquake-resistant areas shall also comply with the relevant provisions of the "Code for Seismic Design of Industrial and Civil Buildings" (TJ11-78). Article 1.0.3 Bricks used in this code shall comply with the specifications of "Ordinary Clay Bricks" (JC149-73), "Load-Bearing Clay Hollow Bricks" (JC19675), "Autoclaved Lime Sand Bricks" (JC153-75) (hereinafter referred to as ordinary bricks, hollow bricks, and lime sand bricks) and "Fly Ash Bricks" (JC239-77)
Stone materials shall meet the design requirements of the grade and rock type. Article 1.0.4 Materials used in masonry engineering shall be accepted in accordance with national standards, ministerial standards or factory certificates. If there is any doubt about the material, it shall be used only after passing the inspection. Various measuring instruments should be calibrated regularly to ensure accurate use.
Article 1.0.5 Safety technology, labor protection and fire prevention requirements during construction must comply with the provisions of current relevant standards and regulations. Engineering Construction Standards Full Text Information System

Chapter II General Provisions
Article 2.0.1 Masonry engineering shall not be constructed until the foundation or foundation engineering has been accepted.
Article 2.0.2
The elevation of the building shall be derived from the standard leveling point or the leveling point specified in the design.
Article 2.0.3 Before foundation construction, a signboard shall be set up at the main axis of the building. The position and elevation of the foundation, wall and axis shall be marked on the signboard.
For buildings with simple appearance or structure, guide piles for controlling the axis can be used instead of signboards.
Article 2.0.4 Before laying the foundation, the layout dimensions must be checked with a steel ruler, and the allowable deviation should not exceed the provisions of Table 2.0.4. Allowable deviation of laying-out dimensions
