GB6944 Classification and name number of dangerous goods United Nations "Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods: Model Regulations" (Fifteenth Revised Edition) 3 Terms and definitions GB6944 and the United Nations "Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods: Model Regulations (Fifteenth Revised Edition)" and the following terms and definitions are applicable to this standard. Substances and articles of Class 9 (miscellaneous dangerous substances and articles) substances and articles of Class 9 (miscellaneous dangerous + gerous substances and articles) substances and articles that have dangers not included in other categories during transportation. 3.2 Fertilizerscapable of self-sustaining decompositionDecomposition initiated locally will extend to the whole fertilizer. 4 Classification procedures New products offered for transport whose composition meets the definition of UN2071 shall be subject to classification procedures before they are offered for transport. 4.1 Basis for classification Tests shall be conducted to determine whether decomposition initiated locally in the new product will extend to the whole substance. The recommended test methods are given in Chapter 5 of this standard. Whether the product is an ammonium nitrate fertilizer in Class 9 substances and articles depends on the test results. 4.2 Packing divisions All ammonium nitrate fertilizers in Class 9 substances and articles are classified in Class 9 packaging. 4.3 Exceptions Ammonium nitrate fertilizers with the composition described in UN2071 may be considered not to be subject to the United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods: Model Regulations if tests show that they are not prone to self-sustaining decomposition and do not contain excess nitrates by mass greater than 10%. 1 KAONLKAcA GB26447—2010 5 Test method 5.1 Principle Put the ammonium nitrate fertilizer in the form to be submitted for transportation into a horizontally mounted wire mesh trough, and heat the bottom layer of the fertilizer to induce local decomposition. After removing the initiating heat source, measure the spread of the decomposition to the fertilizer in the entire trough to determine whether the product is a fertilizer that can self-sustain decomposition. 5.2 Apparatus and Materials 5.2.1 Wire Mesh Slot Use a square-hole wire mesh (stainless steel is recommended) with a mesh size of about 1.5 mm and a wire diameter of 1 mm to make a slot with an open top and internal dimensions of 150 mm × 150 mm × 500 mm, as shown in Figure 1. Place the slot on a support made of a steel bar 15 mm wide and 2 mm thick. The wire mesh at both ends of the slot can be replaced by a 1.5 mm thick, 150 mm × 150 mm square stainless steel plate. If the particle size composition of the fertilizer is such that most of the fertilizer leaks through the mesh holes of the slot, a slot with smaller mesh or a slot lined with a wire mesh with smaller mesh should be used for the test. During initiation, sufficient heat should be provided and maintained to produce a uniform decomposition front. E Steel plate (150mm×150mm, thickness 1mm3mm); Gas burner: Heat shielding steel plate (thickness 2mm); Bracket (made of steel strip with width 15mm and thickness 2mm); Mesh slot (150mmX150mm×500mm). Figure 1 Metal mesh slot with gas burner 5.2.2 Heating device and installation One of the following two heating devices is selected for heating: 5.2.2.1 Electric heating device Install a set of 250W electric heaters in a stainless steel box and place it at one end of the slot, as shown in Figure 2. Stainless steel box size is 145mm×145mm×10mm, and the wall thickness of the steel plate is about 3mm. The side of the box that does not contact the fertilizer can be protected by a 5mm thick insulation board, and the heated side can be protected by aluminum box paper or stainless steel plate. Unit: mm Aluminum or stainless steel plate (original 3mm): Insulation board (thickness 5mm): Aluminum or stainless steel plate (thickness 3mm): Position of heating device in the slot, Figure 2 Electric heating device (power 250W) 5.2.2.2 Gas heating device Place a steel plate with a thickness of 1mm to 3mm at the inner end of the slot and contact it with the wire mesh as shown in Figure 1. Fix two gas burners on the slot bracket. Heat the steel plate and keep the temperature of the steel plate at 100℃~-600℃, that is, dark red hot. 5.2.3 Heat shielding device In order to prevent heat from spreading along the outside of the slot, a 2mm thick steel plate is installed about 5cm away from the heating end of the slot as a heat shield. 5.2.4 Thermocouples Appropriate thermocouples should be used. 5.3 Test Procedures 5.3.1 Placement of the Test Tank Place the test tank and the support under a fume hood to remove decomposition gases, or place it in an open area so that the fumes can be easily dispersed. Although there is no explosion hazard in this test, it is still recommended to set up a protective shield such as a transparent plastic sheet between the test tank and the observer. 5.3.2 Filling with Fertilizer Fill the tank with fertilizer in the form in which it is to be delivered for transportation, and place thermocouples at different positions in the fertilizer. 5.3.3. Heating to induce decomposition Initiate decomposition at one end of the tank using the above-mentioned electric or gas heating methods. Continue heating until the fertilizer is fully decomposed and the propagation of the front is observed (3cm~5cm). In the case of products with high thermal stability, it may be necessary to continue heating for 2 hours; if the fertilizer shows a tendency to melt, it should be heated carefully, such as using a small flame. 5.3.4 Recording Record the position of the decomposition reaction front about 20 minutes after heating is stopped. The reaction front can be determined by color difference, such as brown (undecomposed fertilizer) to white (decomposed fertilizer), or from the temperature displayed by two pairs of adjacent thermocouples between the reaction fronts. The propagation rate can be determined by observation and timing or thermocouple recording. It should be recorded whether the decomposition stops after heating is stopped or whether the decomposition spreads to the entire material. 5.4 Result determination 5.4.1 If the decomposition continues to spread to all substances after the heating stops, the result is recorded as "ten", and the ammonium nitrate fertilizer can self-sustain decomposition. 5.4.2 If the decomposition does not continue to spread to all substances after the heating stops, the result is recorded as "5.4.3 The test results of some samples are shown in Table 1. Note: The ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in fertilizers cannot be used as a criterion for whether it will self-sustain decomposition, because whether it will self-sustain decomposition depends on the type of chemical.
