National Standard of the People's Republic of China Terms for motorcycles and mopeds-Types of vehicles Term for motorcycles and mopeds-Types of vehiclesGB/T 5359.1—1996 Replaces GB5359.1—85 This standard adopts the international standard ISO3833-77 "Road vehicles-Types-Terms and definitions" by reference. 1 Subject content and scope of application This standard specifies the terms related to the types of motorcycles and mopeds. This standard applies to motorcycles and mopeds traveling on highways, urban roads and non-highways. 2 Terminology 2.1 Moped A two-wheeled or three-wheeled motor vehicle with a maximum design speed not exceeding 50km/h. If the power is a heat engine, its total displacement shall not exceed 50mL. 2.1.1 Moped with two wheels A moped with two wheels is equipped with a driving wheel and a driven wheel, and is suitable for traveling on highways or urban roads. 2.1.2 Scooter A two-wheeled motorcycle with a sitting frame that is suitable for traveling on highways or urban roads. Right three-wheeled moped 2.1.3 A moped with three wheels, one of which is on the longitudinal center plane, and the other two wheels are symmetrically distributed with the longitudinal center plane. 2.1.3.1 General right three-wheeled moped General right three-wheeled moped is a three-wheeled moped used to carry passengers or cargo. 2.1.3.2 Right three-wheeled moped for specific purpose is equipped with special equipment and is used to complete designated tasks or in special places. 2.2 Motorcycle A two-wheeled motor vehicle or a three-wheeled motor vehicle with a curb weight not exceeding 400kg. The mopeds specified in Article 2.1 are not included. Note: 1) The curb weight of a three-wheeled motorcycle with a cab and a special vehicle is not subject to this limit. 2.2.1 Motorcycle with two wheels A motorcycle with one driving wheel and one driven wheel. 2.2.1.1 Streetbike, a two-wheeled motorcycle suitable for traveling on highways or urban roads. 2.2.1.2 Motorscooter, a two-wheeled motorcycle with a sitting frame suitable for traveling on highways or urban roads. 2.2.1.3 Dual-purpose bike Approved by the State Administration of Technical Supervision on July 23, 1996, and implemented on March 1, 1997 GB/T5359.1—1996 Ride-on frame, off-road wheels, with off-road performance, mainly used for road travel, and can also be used for two-wheeled motorcycles traveling on rough roads. Off-road bike Ride-on frame, off-road wheels, with off-road performance, mainly used for two-wheeled motorcycles traveling on non-roads. 2.2.1.5 General racer bike Two-wheeled motorcycles used for racing on a specific track. 2.2.1.6 Road racer bike Two-wheeled motorcycles used for racing on closed roads. 2.2.1.7 Motorcrosser racer bike Two-wheeled motorcycles with off-road performance used for off-road competitions in non-road areas. 2.2.1.8 Trial bike A two-wheeled motorcycle used to test the driving skills, endurance and durability of athletes. 2.2.1.9 Motorcycle with two wheels for specific purpose A two-wheeled motorcycle equipped with special equipment and used to complete special tasks.
