1 Scope
GB/T 40215 specifies the structure and content of the coding of meteorological observation equipment (hereinafter referred to as "equipment").
GB/T 40215 applies to the coding of equipment.
2 Normative references

3 Terms and definitions
There are no terms and definitions that need to be defined in this document.
5.1.2 Category code, major category code, medium category code, minor category code
The categories of equipment such as category code, major category code, medium category code, minor category code and their corresponding codes shall comply with the provisions of Appendix A.
5.1.3 Sub-category code
5.1.3.1 For new factory equipment, the sub-category code shall be coded by each manufacturer; different names or different models shall be classified into one sub-category, and the sub-category code shall be coded in the order of 0000~9999.
5.1.3.2 For equipment that has left the factory, the sub-category code is coded by the user unit or the competent department; different names or different models are classified into one sub-category, and the sub-category code is coded in the order of 0000~9999.
5.2 Manufacturer identification code
It is used to identify the manufacturer of the equipment and should be coded in accordance with the provisions of 4.1.1.2 of GB 12904-2008. If the length is less than 8 characters, "0" is used to fill the 8 bits in the high position; if the length is more than 8 characters, the extra high-order characters are omitted and the low-order 8 characters are retained.
5.3 Production serial code
5.3.1 Production serial code structure
It is used to identify a certain equipment/set, and consists of model batch code, production date code and production sequence code. The coding structure should meet the requirements of Table 3.

This document specifies the structure and content of the coding of meteorological observation equipment (hereinafter referred to as "equipment"). This document applies to the coding of equipment.

5.3.3.2 For equipment shipped from the factory, the production date code is the administrative division code of the location of the equipment.
