This standard is a revision of GB/T8231-1987 "Sorghum".
Compared with GB/T8231-1987, the main changes of this standard are as follows:

--- Revised the scope of application, classification, auxiliary sieve layer for bulk density determination, moisture content and shelled kernels of the original standard.
This standard replaces GB/T8231-1987 "Sorghum" from the date of implementation.

1 Scope

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this standard. 3.1
Bulk density testweight
The mass of high-seed grain (passing through a 4.5 mm round hole sieve and retained on a 2.0 mm round hole sieve) per unit volume is expressed in grams per liter (g/L).
Unsound kernels
Kernels that are damaged but still have use value include the following: 3.2.1
Spotted kernels
Kernels with spots on the surface, which damage the embryo or endosperm. 3.2.2
Injured kernels

5 Quality requirements

5.2 Hygiene indicators shall be implemented in accordance with GB2715 and relevant national standards and regulations. 5.3 Plant quarantine shall be implemented in accordance with relevant national standards and regulations. 6 Inspection methods
6.1 General rules for inspection: in accordance with GB/T5490. 6.2 Sampling and sub-sampling: in accordance with GB5491. 6.31
Color and smell inspection: in accordance with GB/T5492. Type and intermixing inspection: in accordance with GB/T5493. 6.4

Water content inspection: in accordance with GB/T5497.
Bulk density inspection: in accordance with GB/T5498. The auxiliary sieve layer is changed to a 4.5mm round hole sieve. 6.7

All kinds of sorghum are graded by bulk density, and the other indicators are used as the basis for price increase or deduction. Sorghum below the third grade is substandard sorghum. 8 Labeling

The product name, quality grade, harvest year, place of origin, etc. should be indicated on the packaging or cargo registration card and the accompanying trade documents. 9 Packaging, transportation and storage
9.1 General requirements
The packaging, storage and transportation of packaged or bulk sorghum should comply with the relevant national technical standards and specifications. 9.2 Packaging
The packaging should be dense and firm, and should not leak or pollute the sorghum. When using sacks for packaging, it should comply with the provisions of LS/T3801; when using woven bags for packaging, it should comply with the provisions of GB/T8946. 9.3 Storage
It should be stored in a cool and dry place according to classification and grade, and should not be mixed with toxic and harmful items, and the stacking height should be appropriate. 9.4 Transportation
Pay attention to safety during transportation to prevent sun exposure, rain, leakage and pollution. The vehicles, ships and other equipment used for transportation shall not cause pollution to sorghum. GB/T8231-2007
