3.1 Ordering
All gas phase anti-rust packaging materials ordered must be products that have passed the quality inspection. The user unit shall verify its gas phase corrosion inhibition performance. For packaging with an anti-rust period of more than two years, its gas phase corrosion inhibition performance after exposure or dynamic humidity and heat test must also be verified. Those that fail to meet the standards shall not be used for gas phase rust packaging of products. The ordering contract shall include the following provisions:. Type, model and standard of the product. b: Whether it is necessary to inspect the order samples, the inspection unit, the inspection items and the test methods. Are there any special requirements for packaging?
3.2 Storage and preservation of gas phase anti-rust packaging materials and their packaging products The sealed gas phase anti-rust packaging materials and their packaging products should be stored in a cool and dry warehouse. When used, open them and the coating surface should be exposed to the air for no more than 4 hours. If this kind of packaging is damaged or polluted by sunlight, wind, rain, acid, alkali, and salt substances, the gas phase corrosion inhibition performance should be re-inspected and it can only be used if it is qualified. Approved by the State Bureau of Technical Supervision on March 1, 1993 and implemented on August 1, 1993
3.2.1 Environmental conditions
3.2. 1. 1 Temperature
GB/T 14188-93
, gas phase anti-rust packaging materials and their packaging products cannot be stored in places below 365, but can be used in places below 0C. b. In warm areas, the VCI packaging materials and the products packaged therein should be well sealed to prevent the vapor corrosion inhibitor from evaporating, migrating and losing.
3.2.1.2 Relative humidity
The packaged VCI packaging materials and the products packaged therein are not allowed to be stored in an environment with a relative humidity greater than 85%. 3.2.1.3 Light
The packaged VCI packaging materials and the products packaged therein should be stored away from light. If it is unavoidable, they should be shielded with shading materials. 3.2.1.4 Airflow
In situations with strong airflow, the VCI packaging materials and the products packaged therein should not only be well sealed, but also be shielded externally. 3.2.1.5 Acids and their vapors
a. Metal cleaning agents of the hydrochloric acid type and any solvents containing sulfur cannot be used for cleaning before the VCI packaging materials are used for rust prevention.
b. Gas phase anti-rust packaging materials and the products packaged by them cannot be stored in industrial fumes containing hydrochloric acid, hydrogen sulfide, hydrogen sulfide, sulfur dioxide or other acid vapors.
3.2.2 Storage and storage packaging quality regulations
Gas phase anti-rust packaging materials cannot be used for anti-rust packaging of products if any of the following conditions exist: the packaging bag or container is shaved or otherwise damaged, resulting in the exposure of the gas phase anti-rust packaging materials: a.
No production inspection certificate:
Although there is a production inspection certificate, it fails the factory inspection; d.
The type and model are unknown or do not meet the use requirements, and the production date is more than one year away from use.
The above conditions are excepted if the gas phase corrosion inhibition performance test or dynamic humidity and heat test is still qualified. 3. 3 Restrictions on use
Unless otherwise specified and verified data, gas phase anti-rust packaging materials cannot be used for products that protect optical devices and highly explosive substances and propellants connected to them.
Assemblies of precision moving parts coated with preservatives or lubricants for protection, if they are packaged and stored with vapor phase rust-proof packaging materials, and if the product performance and technical requirements are affected, they cannot be used.
Vapor phase rust-proof packaging materials cannot be used to package food because they contain chemicals. 3.3.1 Restrictions on contact with non-ferrous metals
Vapor phase rust-proof packaging materials must be subjected to the contact corrosion test in Article 5.3.3 before they come into direct contact with non-ferrous metals other than aluminum and its alloys, and can only be used after they pass the test.
b. For zinc, zinc plate, cadmium, galvanneal, zinc-based alloy, magnesium-based alloy, lead-based alloy and other alloys (including solder) containing more than 30% zinc or more than 9% lead and parts, when these materials or they are treated or shielded by other methods, before they are packaged with vapor phase rust-proof packaging materials, they must be subjected to the adaptability test in Article 5.3.2 and pass the test before they can be used. 3.3.2 Restrictions on contact with non-metallic materials
Parts and assemblies containing non-metallic materials such as plastics, rubber, oil, and coatings can be packaged with VCI packaging materials after passing the adaptability test in accordance with Article 5.3.2.
3.3.3 Provisions for mixing different VCI packaging materials When different VCI packaging materials are mixed, they should be treated as a new VCI packaging material. When the VCI performance test is qualified, they can be used in the same packaging.
3.3.4 Cleaning and drying
GB/T14188—93
Before using VCI materials to package products, they should be carefully cleaned and dried if necessary. During the VCI packaging process, it is strictly forbidden to touch the products with bare hands. When the packaging cannot be completed by mechanized or semi-mechanized procedures, the best cleaning procedure is to use solvent gasoline or kerosene containing 5% to 10% replacement anti-rust oil or dehydration anti-rust agent to prevent hand sweat or residual moisture from causing rust hazards.
3.3.5 Combined use with lubricants
When VCI packaging materials are used in assemblies containing lubricants, a certificate of suitability test permitted by the technical conditions of the product specified in Article 5.3.2 should be obtained. Before VCI packaging materials are used for assembly packaging, excess grease on the assembly should be removed. If it is a binder or solid lubricant that is evenly dispersed and bonded to the substrate, it does not need to be removed. 4 Application of VCI packaging materials
4.1 Anti-rust packaging materials treated with vapor corrosion inhibitors VCI paper, VCI thin film and bags, tapes, envelopes, etc. made of them should generally wrap the parts. There should be no other materials between the parts and the VCI packaging materials. Solvent-diluted replacement anti-rust oil or dehydration anti-rust agent can be used for cleaning. The residual micro-oil film and protective passivation film after drying should be left. The side of the gas treated with the corrosion inhibitor should face the metal. The metal surface to be rusted should be within 300mm of the VCI packaging material. All packages should be sealed. When VCI packaging materials are used directly as packaging bags, the amount of air in the bag should be as small as possible, and the opening should be sealed. If the VCI packaging materials have other instructions for use, they can be used according to the instructions.
4.2 Powdered and crystalline vapor phase corrosion inhibitor materials
Powdered or crystalline (flakes, pills, etc.) vapor phase corrosion inhibitor materials composed of single or multiple compounds can be used in hanging bags or spraying methods to allow the corrosion inhibitor vapor to reach the surface of the product. The vapor phase corrosion inhibitor can also be sprayed directly into the container in the form of powder, spray, or atomization. After spraying, the package should be sealed immediately.
4.3 Layered or composite vapor phase corrosion inhibitor packaging materials When products are packaged with layered or composite vapor phase corrosion inhibitor materials, the vapor phase corrosion inhibitor should be placed in the inner layer, facing the metal. When materials treated with vapor phase corrosion inhibitors are used in graded board boxes (boxes) containing isolation boards, the materials buried in the vapor phase corrosion inhibitor should be mounted (lined) on the inner surface of the cardboard box (box). 4.4. Gas phase inhibitor materials for padding and buffering In order to prevent parts or packaging from being damaged, padding and buffering materials are used to line the protruding sharp corners and edges, and the padding should be tightly around the product. When using gas phase corrosion inhibitor treated padding and buffering materials, when there is an impact on contact with metal, aluminum foil or other appropriate shielding materials should be used to separate the product and the gas phase corrosion inhibitor materials. 4.5 Amount of gas phase corrosion inhibitor packaging materials
The amount of gas phase corrosion inhibitor packaging materials is generally equal to the exposed area of the packaged items. If the amount of gas phase corrosion inhibitor impregnated or coated on the gas phase corrosion inhibitor packaging material is large, or powdered, granulated gas phase corrosion inhibitor materials or other gas phase corrosion inhibitor materials adsorbed by porous carriers are used, the amount is calculated based on the effective content of the gas phase corrosion inhibitor in the material, and the amount of corrosion inhibitor per cubic meter of sealed container volume should be ≥35g. 4.6 Use of VCI Packaging Materials on Sealed Parts and Blind Hole Components For sealed parts such as cylinders, gear boxes, etc., VCI materials should be applied to their spaces and sealed immediately. For components with smaller open holes, when the hole depth is greater than 150mm, VCI packaging materials should be embedded in the holes, and the area to be protected should not be more than 300mm away from the VCI materials. The minimum amount of VCI packaging materials used to protect sealed parts and blind hole components should comply with the requirements of Article 4.5. If necessary, use a label or other form to indicate "Do not use before the vapor phase corrosion inhibitor is removed" on the component. 4.7 Desiccant
Generally, desiccant is not required in the packaging of vapor phase anti-rust packaging materials. However, for areas where the relative humidity of the packaging environment exceeds 70%, a silica gel desiccant containing GB10455\A type packaging can be appropriately placed to prevent metal corrosion during the induction period of the vapor phase anti-rust packaging materials. 4.8 Anti-rust effect
The anti-rust packaging effect and reliability of vapor phase anti-rust packaging materials are determined by the following conditions: a. The corrosion inhibition ability of the vapor phase anti-rust packaging material itself. Mainly depends on the vapor phase corrosion inhibition performance and the vapor phase corrosion inhibition performance after consumption. b. The degree of protection required by the product. Determined by the materials, structure, and precision of the product. The sealing condition of the core vapor phase anti-rust packaging.
4.9 Marking
GB/T14188--93
Use vapor phase anti-rust packaging In addition to the GH191 mark, the finished products packaged with materials may be marked with the words "gas phase anti-rust packaging". 4.10 Removal of vapor phase anti-rust packaging materials
For general products, the vapor phase anti-rust packaging materials can be removed. For precision moving parts, when there are powdery or crystalline deposits on the surface and they do not need to be stored any longer, they can be removed with alcohol or methanol. 5 Quality Inspection
5.1 Inspection Responsibilities
The manufacturer shall be responsible for the inspection requirements specified in this article. The user or purchaser has the right to re-inspect, but at least the vapor phase corrosion inhibition performance must be spot checked. For anti-rust packaging that is more than one year old, it is necessary to check the vapor phase corrosion inhibition performance after exposure or conduct a dynamic humidity and heat chamber test. It can only be used if it passes the test. 5.2 Inspection Classification
